Unless you have big budgets to spend on PR campaigns or paying professional consultants or agencies, you’ll probably be relying upon your own time, determination and ideas when raising your profile.
There are lots of ways that you can raise your profile that will generate good results for little or no monetary investment – all it takes is some of your time and a dollop of creative thinking.
Here are six ideas to get you going.
Get others to do it for you. Words of happy customers and clients are unbeatable. Think of them as your ‘army of advocates’, so don’t be shy; request feedback and use it on your social media channels and website and any other promotional materials you may have.
Meet people! Nothing quite beats a face-to-face meeting I’m sure you’ll agree. Whether you meet at networking events, conferences or for coffee in a café, it’s an incredibly powerful way to establish if you can begin a great relationship.
Collaborate. Gathering like-minded and trustworthy businesses in your area and agreeing to cross-promote each other can be a great way to raise your profile within the group and further afield. Think as Aristotle did: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
Know what to say. The average attention span of an adult is about six to eight seconds. That’s all! So, it’s important to be able to tell others what you do concisely and memorably. Creating a great pitch will pay huge dividends in terms of helping to raise your profile and, importantly, helping people remember you!
Get sociable. Chances are you’re already there, and social media channels like Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram are all free. While there are options to pay for advertising and increasing your reach, it’s not mandatory. Just make sure you check in regularly, post good stuff and join in the conversations!
Write. And, of course, the written word can help enormously! Tell your stories via a blog, your website a newsletter and even with press releases for the media. As long as you convey what you want to promote in a way that is engaging and isn’t an obvious sales tactic, you’ll help to establish and raise your profile.
These are just a few ways that you could use to raise your profile at no or low cost. Rather, it’s about the effort and time you invest and, of course, the relevance it has for the people you want to reach.
Go get ‘em!
